# Buy Tether (USDT) in Australia

> Tether (USDT) with live AUD pricing on Digital Surge, Australian and AUSTRAC-registered. PayID or bank deposits and a two-way USDT to AUD converter.

Tether (USDT) is crypto's common trading pair: a stablecoin, meaning a cryptocurrency pegged to a reference asset, in its case one US dollar per token. Traders use it to move between assets without touching fiat, and in 2019 it overtook bitcoin as the most-traded cryptocurrency by volume. Digital Surge sells it in Australian dollars, a few taps from deposit to settled order.

## Tether price in AUD (live)

USDT tracks the US dollar, so its price in AUD moves mainly with the AUD/USD exchange rate rather than crypto sentiment. That rate shifts around the clock, so check the AUD quote again as you order.

## About Tether (USDT)

Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin, a cryptocurrency pegged to a reference asset rather than floating freely, and in USDT's case that reference is one US dollar per token. Its issuer, the British Virgin Islands company Tether Holdings Limited, states each token is backed 100% by its reserves and mints new USDT only for KYC-verified customers who buy it.

Across crypto exchanges USDT is the common settlement and trading layer, the pair traders use to move between coins without cashing out to fiat each time, and in 2019 it overtook bitcoin as the most-traded cryptocurrency by volume.

The project began as Realcoin in July 2014, co-founded by Brock Pierce, Reeve Collins and Craig Sellars, and took the Tether name that November. On Digital Surge it trades as an Ethereum (ERC20) token, settling on Ethereum's proof-of-stake consensus. For minting, redemption and the reserve statements in full, see our [Tether guide](/how-to-buy-tether/).

Why USDT, why here

## Why buy Tether with Digital Surge

Almost everywhere in crypto, USDT is the money side of the screen; here it is a listing of its own, bought outright in Australian dollars.

### Is buying USDT here dependable?

It is.

No one trades before an identity check clears, and a filled USDT order is recorded against your verified account.

Digital Surge is registered with AUSTRAC, the national agency supervising digital currency exchanges under Australia's anti-money-laundering rules.

We stand behind our own process; Tether's reserve statements are the issuer's to make.

FAQ

## Buying Tether: FAQs

How much Tether do I need to start?

Almost none. The minimum order is a small fraction of a single USDT, smaller than most people would ever type. You set the size in AUD and the matching USDT amount is shown before you confirm the order.

How soon is USDT usable after purchase?

Straight after the order fills, and orders fill on confirmation, so the balance is ready to hold, trade back or withdraw. The slower steps sit earlier, verifying your identity and landing a first deposit, though PayID cuts that wait to minutes.

Can I sell or swap USDT on Digital Surge?

Yes. From your Digital Surge account you can sell USDT back to Australian dollars or swap it into another listed coin, all in the app. The trade settles at the live rate when you confirm, and the AUD is credited to your balance.

Which network moves a USDT withdrawal?

Withdrawals leave on Ethereum. USDT here is the Ethereum (ERC20) listing, so a transfer needs an Ethereum address that handles ERC-20 tokens. Tether issues the token on several networks elsewhere, so make sure your wallet expects the Ethereum version.

Why does the USDT price still move against the Australian dollar?

Because it is priced here in AUD, not US dollars. USDT tracks one US dollar, so its Australian-dollar figure moves mainly with the AUD/USD exchange rate rather than with crypto sentiment. A weaker Australian dollar lifts the AUD price and a stronger one lowers it.

What does USDT cost in AUD right now?

Whatever the live tracker up this page reads when you look, since it re-prices continuously in AUD. Enter a quantity into the converter for an exact AUD figure, and the order screen quotes from the same feed.
