Buy Aave (AAVE) in Australia

Aave has kept its lending protocol running on Ethereum since January 2020, making it one of DeFi's longest-running lending protocols, and AAVE is the ERC-20 token its holders use to vote on parameters and upgrades. Digital Surge sells that token for Australian dollars: verify once, deposit by PayID or bank transfer, and an order takes minutes.

About Aave (AAVE)

Aave (AAVE) is the Ethereum ERC-20 token that governs the Aave Protocol, a decentralised, non-custodial liquidity protocol that has run on Ethereum since 8 January 2020, one of DeFi's longest-running lending protocols. AAVE, stkAAVE and aAAVE holders use it to vote on the protocol's parameters and to approve upgrades through on-chain Aave Governance.

The project started in 2017 as ETHLend under founder Stani Kulechov and rebranded to Aave, Finnish for ghost, in September 2018, shifting from peer-to-peer loans toward pooled liquidity. It has shipped in public, versioned releases ever since, with v2 arriving in December 2020 and v3 in March 2022.

On the protocol itself, suppliers add assets to shared pools while borrowers post over-collateralised crypto, and its flash loans let developers borrow and repay inside a single Ethereum transaction. For the lending pools, flash loans and the GHO stablecoin in full, see our Aave guide.

FAQ

Buying Aave: FAQs

Can I buy far less than one AAVE?

Yes, orders run down to $1 AUD, so there is no need for a whole token. Type a dollar amount in AUD and the platform works out the AAVE side before you confirm.

How quickly is an AAVE order filled?

The fill is effectively instant: confirm at the quoted rate and the AAVE credits your balance. The slower parts come earlier, the one-time identity check and the AUD deposit, minutes by PayID and longer by bank transfer.

Can I sell or swap AAVE on Digital Surge?

Yes. From your Digital Surge account you can sell AAVE back to Australian dollars or swap it for another listed coin, all inside the app. The sale settles at the live rate when you confirm, and the AUD lands in your account balance.

Does AAVE leave Digital Surge on the Ethereum network?

Yes. Digital Surge lists AAVE as an ERC-20 token, so withdrawals travel the Ethereum network to an Ethereum address that handles ERC-20 tokens. Check the destination first, because transfers aimed at the wrong network cannot be recalled.

What is the difference between the Aave protocol and the AAVE token?

Two different things. The Aave Protocol is the set of Ethereum smart contracts where suppliers and borrowers meet, while AAVE is the ERC-20 governance token holders use to vote on it. Buying AAVE on Digital Surge gives you the token, not a lending position.

Which price does an AAVE order use?

The live market rate at the very second you confirm, shown in AUD on the review screen. It runs on the same feed as this page's price tracker and converter, so your research and your final order always line up.
