ChainLink (LINK) is the token behind Chainlink, a decentralised oracle network first set out in a whitepaper in September 2017 and live on Ethereum since May 2019. Oracles solve a specific problem: a smart contract cannot reach data outside its own blockchain, and Chainlink supplies that outside data, most famously live price feeds.
